Roulette is a casino game in which you bet on numbers and hope that they will appear when the ball lands. It’s a fun and easy game to play, but there are some rules that you should be aware of before playing.
You can make a bet on a single number, or place chips on a group of numbers. These are called “outside bets”.
Origins
Despite being one of the most popular games around, historians are unable to agree on the exact origin of roulette. Some believe that the game was invented by French mathematician Blaise Pascal while he was working on a perpetual motion machine, others say that it is based on an old Italian board game called Biribi, and yet others point to the fact that a similar game was played in the 1500s as part of traveling carnival shows.
What is clear is that the modern version of this popular game was created over time as rules were combined and modified. Other games that are thought to be precursors of roulette include portique, hoca and bassette. It is also possible that the game was brought to America by European immigrants along with other popular gambling games.
