Roulette is a game of chance in which players make bets on the number the ball will land in after it spins. There are different types of bets, with some offering higher payouts than others.
Bets are made by placing chips on a betting mat. The croupier then indicates when betting can commence.
Origin
The origin of roullete is unclear, but it is generally believed to have been invented in the 17th century by French mathematician Blaise Pascal. He was trying to create a perpetual motion machine when he accidentally created a spinning wheel with numbered slots. The game gained traction quickly, and it became a popular casino game in Paris. There is also some evidence that soldiers in ancient Rome played a game that was similar to modern roulette. They would write symbols on the inside of a shield, then place it on the ground with an arrow next to it. They would then spin the shield and place bets on which symbol it would land in front of.
The modern European/Latin American roulette wheel was based on this older game and the Italian game Biribi.
Bets
The betting options available on roullete are pretty cool. Players can place Dozens, Columns, and Street bets, among others. The simplest of these is the Dozens bet, where players are expected to place chips on 12 numbers on a roulette grid and get paid 2-1 if they win. Another popular wager is the split, which pays out 17 times if players make a correct prediction of two adjacent numbers. Another outside bet is the Street bet, which pays out 11 to 1 if players correctly predict three numbers in a row. This type of wager is considered less risky than an Inside bet.
